I have the fondest memories of using Grey and Searle's "Electronics Principles" book around 1972 at the University of Florida. (My friends and I referred to it as "the big black book.")
Our undergraduate electronics sequence covered about 1/2 of the book, but I read it cover-to-cover on my own. I particularly remember the joy of learning how small 1 and 2 transistor amplifier configurations could be approximately analyzed as almost-ideal feedback control systems. Very cool.
